COLEXON realizes 1 MWp-power plant within record time

Hamburg, May 31, 2010: At the end of February, construction work began in the Northern Italian province Imola. Designed by COLEXON Energy AG, the plant came on stream on May 12 and has been opened at an official ceremony on May 29. The solar park was built in collaboration with COLEXON's local partner Cleantech and has a maximum output of 1MWp.

With the opening of the solar power plant in Imola, the Hamburg-based COLEXON Energy AG is continuing its consistent pursuit of an international direction for the company. Thorsten Preugschas, CEO of COLEXON, stresses the importance of the project: "In light of the upcoming changes of the feed-in-tariff in Germany, the Italian market plays an important role for our company. Due to the attractive framework conditions for solar energy in Italy, such as the intensity of the solar radiation and the attractive feed-in-tarrif, the Italian solar market occupies an important position in our international expansion."

Well-proven partnerships as key to joint success
To complete the solar park in Imola, COLEXON involved local partners such as Cleantech right from the outset. This approach proved its value during the project planning phase: although the bad weather conditions due to the long winter made the work very difficult at times, the plant was finished in less than three months and has been connected to the grid as early as May 12. “The fast construction of the project proves the know-how of the COLEXON team, shows that we have taken the right decisions regarding our partners and the region of Imola” summarized COLEXON during the opening ceremony. Cleantech pointed out the meaning of the cooperation with COLEXON: “With this project we have established a solid foundation for a continuous close and successful cooperation with our new partner COLEXON. Together we will exploit the enormous potential of the Italian solar market.”

An attractive proposition in a future market
In total, 4,620 polycrystalline modules from the manufacturer Moser Baer were installed in Imola over a surface of 23,500 square meters. Also used are SMA power inverters, which convert the annually produced 1.1 million kilowatt hours into AC current suitable for the grid. As a result of the favourable payments for feeding energy into Italy's grid, the plant has not only ecological strengths but is also a very attractive investment proposition. The mayor of Imola, Daniele Manca, also sees the solar park as a signal. "Renewable energies are the future. We want to support this and foster the increasing importance of solar energy. We want to thank COLEXON and Cleantech for supplying our local companies and families with environmentally friendly solar energy", said Manca at the opening ceremony.
